As we are progressing through Term 1, it has been really encouraging to have many Year 12 students making a point of booking a time with me to discuss their future pathways. For those who have yet to do so, please email me sluck@stpaulsags.vic.edu.au to arrange a time to meet in the Careers office.

This fortnight’s newsletter contains important information regarding the UCAT as registrations are now open and applications for ANU (Australian National University in Canberra) have also opened.  Please don’t hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions.

Are you applying for Medicine?

UCAT registrations for 2022 have just opened

If you are in Year 12 and plan to apply for medicine, dentistry and/or oral health to start in 2023, you may need to sit the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test).

You will sit the test mid-year and selected universities use your UCAT ANZ results as part of the selection process, in conjunction with your ATAR and VCE results, and in some cases, an interview.  You will only have one chance to sit the UCAT ANZ this year. It will cost you around $305 to sit the test or $199 concession, and you will be able to receive your results straight away.

If you’re planning to sit UCAT in 2022, you’ll need to complete the two-step registration process to secure your UCAT test date now.  Test allocations are available on a strictly first-come, first-served basis – so you will need to book as quickly as possible to get your ideal test date.

Further information
For everything you need to know, download the handbook developed by UCAT Masterclass: UCAT Handbook

To register for the test click here: https://www.ucat.edu.au/register/booking-a-test/

You have the choice to start preparing for the test early. There are several private companies that offer commercial preparation programs, we have listed two companies below:

NIE (National Institute of Education) Are running a free online webinar recommended to students considering a career in Medicine or Dentistry, and especially for those who already know that they will be sitting the UCAT or attending Med School interviews. The seminar will be held on Sunday 13 March 10:00 am – 12:00 noon AEDT Register here

iCanMed – A quick guide to 2022 UCAT registrations can be found in the UCAT Guide Click here

2022 UCAT testing starts only four months from now. To help students get their preparation sorted ASAP, iCanMed are running UCAT masterclasses in April over two days. They will teach you how to solve all 14 question types (you get a workbook too), as well as getting you to immediately apply the full techniques to find and fix your mistakes. We highly recommend that all students do as much preparation as possible before attending. The masterclass is just one of the features of the UCAT Pro Course – it also includes regular UCAT progress classes, an exam review masterclass, 2500+ exam questions, 2500+ step-by-step video solutions, mock exams and unlimited 24-hour personal support.

Shortly after submitting the ANU Direct Application (allow 24-48 hours), students will be invited to the Tuckwell Scholarship Stage 1 Application Form via email. The sooner you submit your ANU Direct Application, the sooner you can access the Tuckwell Scholarship Stage 1 Application Form.

Casual employment

About eighty per cent of all job vacancies are not advertised, so it is crucial that you market yourself to businesses with an excellent resume and cover letter.  Make sure you tell as many people as possible that you are looking for work as often employers rely on ‘word of mouth’ to recruit for their positions.
