As we get closer to the end of the year, Year 12 students have a few things that they need to finalise and complete such as creating USIs, applying for a Tax File Number and a VTAC application.  VTAC is the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and its role is to receive, process and forward course applications to universities, TAFES and independent colleges in Victoria on behalf of students. One application covers you for up to eight different institutions. To ensure timely applications are completed, students need to have created their account and submitted their preferences by 29 September to only pay the $44 fee (a late fee of $126 is payable for applications submitted between 29 September and 4 November, a very late fee of $164 is payable for applications submitted between 4 November and 2 December). Even if you are considering a gap year, you still need to complete your application this year and then defer your offer for 12 months.

If you are considering a Gap Year there are some things that you still need to consider, such as:

  • Plan

Work out what you want to do and where you want to go. You need these details so you can work out how much everything will cost.

  • Budget

Once you know how much you need, write a clear budget that lists every item. You will need to know how you are going to pay for everything in the budget.

  • Save

You will know how much you need, so set some goals and start saving. A contingency plan could be a good idea, just in case you do not manage to save enough.

Elite Student Performer Schemes

Monash University Entry Scheme

Monash is committed to helping students combine academic success with sporting or performing arts success.  Monash knows that for an elite athlete or performer, your ATAR might not accurately reflect your ability and they acknowledge the commitment and time it takes to be at the elite level and how this can affect your studies.

Students who are elite athletes or performers may be eligible for Monash University’s Elite Student Performer Entry Scheme.

Visit Elite Student Performer Entry Scheme and find out more about eligibility criteria, and the application procedure.

Monash University Support Scheme

Monash University is committed to helping its students combine academic success with sporting or performing arts success through our Elite Student Performer Support Program.

The university provides a range of support services and benefits to students who are competing or performing at an elite level in their sport or discipline (ie at the national or international level).

This support will help student members to balance their commitments to both their studies and their sport/discipline and manage any conflicts that may arise.
Find out more at Elite Student Performer Support Scheme.

The University of Melbourne Elite Athletes and Artistic Performers Entry Scheme

If you are an elite athlete or performing artist, you may be eligible for the University of Melbourne Elite Athletes and Artistic Performers Entry Scheme.

Additional consideration can be given for entry into Melbourne undergraduate and graduate degrees to applicants who:

  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • are recognised as an elite athlete or performing artist by one of these organisations
  • meet the prerequisites (and any other published entry requirements) of the course
  • can demonstrate that they have undertaken elite training, competition, performance and/or practice commitments whilst preparing for entry to the University of Melbourne.

The athletic or performance activity applicants nominate cannot be associated with the degree they are applying for, i.e., elite musicians applying for the Bachelor of Music.

Eligible athletes can also apply to Melbourne University’s Elite Athlete Program for sports scholarships and support.
