Our annual Year 10 Careers Conference Camp was held at Phillip Island during the first week of term and was a huge success! I would like to thank Mrs Cumming, all of the teachers, presenters and especially the students who impressed everyone involved with their hard work over the three days.  The conference is a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn new skills and gain key information for their upcoming subject selections.

Once again, this newsletter is full of information aimed at Year 12 students in particular, however Year 10 and 11 students and their families will also find it useful for future planning.

Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS)

Students considering applying for a course at an interstate university or campus might like to consider also applying for the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS). The SRS enables schools to recommend current Year 12 students who are also UAC applicants, for early offers of undergraduate admission.

The aim of SRS is to help more Year 12 students gain access to higher education, especially those students who might otherwise not be offered a place.

SRS applications close at midnight on 19 September 2022.

Find out more by visiting UAC – Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS).

Early Admissions

Applying for an early admission program?
All early admission programs for Victorian universities are now open. Ensure you have checked closing dates and are working on your applications as some programs close at the end of August. You may need to organise a recommendation or your Year 11 results from school, so try and be organised early.

Admissions Testing

Applying for a teaching degree?
If you are planning to apply for an undergraduate education degree in the future, you will need to be aware of the selection criteria outlined below for each state.

Complete the CASPer test
Students planning to apply for initial teacher education courses in Victoria for the 2023 intake are required to sit the Casper test.  This is an online video-based situational judgment test. The test is designed to measure ethics, empathy and communication (selected universities will require this), find out more at https://takealtus.com/

Achieve prerequisites
Meet the requirements for prerequisite subjects.

Achieve minimum study scores
This will vary between universities.

NSW based courses

Teaching Questionnaire
You may need to complete a Teaching Questionnaire via the Universities Admissions Centre.

Motivation to Teach
You may need to complete a Motivation to Teach statement direct to the university.

Achieve prerequisites

Achieve minimum study scores/bands
This will vary between universities.

Please contact the universities you will be applying to for specific information.

Casper is an online, open-response situational judgment test (SJT) for Year 12 students planning to apply for health, veterinary science and teaching courses.  Programs are looking to make sure that students are not only academically capable but also possess suitable personal and professional qualities that make them more likely to succeed on the job.  The test asks what you would do in a tough situation, and more importantly, why.  This helps determine the behavioural tendencies of applicants pursuing people-centred professions.

Nursing – Students planning to apply for undergraduate nursing at Victoria University for the 2023 intake are also required to sit the Casper test.

For information on dates and how to apply, visit Casper Test

Law Admissions Test (LAT)

What is VET in the VCE?
During your upcoming subject selection process you will be asked if you want to complete a VET subject. VET stands for Vocational Education and Training, and vocation refers to work or employment. VET in the VCE programs are designed to give students exposure to practical skills and an understanding of what it is like to ‘learn through doing’. So, students can opt to do a VET subject while completing their VCE and, in most cases, the VET qualification contributes towards the VCE and the ATAR.
