Every student gets given career advice at some point from friends, families, teachers and acquaintances.  The only problem is, that sometimes this advice is based on how careers used to be, not what they are today and where they are heading in the future.

In this week’s newsletter, there is a huge array of opportunities listed for the rest of May, June and July.  One way of finding out up-to-date information and future opportunities, (apart from talking to Mrs Cumming!) is to hear it from the people who are in those jobs now or training people for jobs.

Students, parents and guardians, are encouraged to explore some of these events and utilise the expertise of people ‘on the ground’ to help paint a clear picture of what is required, how to get there and the possibilities to develop new ideas.  We know as adults that the world our children are growing up in is vastly different in many respects than the one we experienced as teenagers – in regards to job opportunities and job outlooks.  We cannot all have the most up-to-date information and knowledge, so utilising other opportunities ensures our students receive current and timely information.

A reminder that the Work Experience (green) Application Form must be handed in to the Careers office by next FRIDAY 31 MAY, if students wish to undertake a Work Experience placement in the mid-year holiday break.  After this date, we cannot guarantee the required paperwork can be completed in time.

Mrs Deb Cumming
Head of Careers
