As always, there is a lot of information for all students in this week’s newsletter and also at this time of the year, there is even more that is directly related to Year 12 students! However, some of this information is a wonderful opportunity for Years 10 and 11 students and their families to also find out about options and institutions to help prepare for 2022, 2023 and beyond when these students will be in Year 12.

Although this is an ever-changing landscape, getting an idea or opening up possibilities, will never go astray. TAFEs, universities and colleges are opening their (virtual) doors to students and parents to explore, ask questions and learn more about future prospects and opportunities.

Everyone is encouraged to utilise what is on offer and ‘jump in’ for numerous experiences!

Need some career inspiration?

It has been difficult for many students to access information about careers and courses due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Open Days have been moved to an online format for the second year in a row, many excursions have been unable to take place and guest speakers have been unable to come onsite.
This has led to a lack of motivation, a sense of feeling lost, and fatigue around future planning and goal setting for some students.
The following websites have recorded webinars from past events that are still relevant and you can watch them from the comfort of home at a time that suits you.
I encourage you to plan the webinars you would like to watch and set aside some time to do this.

CareersEvent.com
This organisation has a series of recorded webinars that students can watch based on their career or course interest areas. Go to, https://bit.ly/30NGJsq

What are the skills you will need for work in the future?

We all know that the world of work has been rapidly changing. Technology and AI are making some jobs easier and in some cases even replacing them completely. On the other hand, things like the recent pandemic has shown how certain skills will always be valuable.

So if you are thinking about what kind of work you would like to do in the future, you might be wondering if the skills you are learning today will still be valuable five, ten or fifteen years from now. Well, the McKinsey Global Institute is doing research into just that – figuring out the jobs of the future and the skills we will need to do them.

There is a fair bit to unpack, so we have picked the important parts out. Take a look here.

GAP Year in Agriculture

GAP Year is a new initiative from Growcom, the peak body for horticulture in Queensland. They want to give young Aussies the chance to explore regional Queensland, meet like-minded people and partner with ethical employers for a year like no other. The aim is to take the guesswork out of gap year options by providing a no nonsense, backstage pass to all that Queensland has to offer.
If you are a school leaver, you can get a free FarmReady card to connect you with approved employers and amazing experiences.
