Many institutions have now changed their Open Days from on-campus to virtual experiences. Although they are very disappointed, they have all worked extremely hard to provide positive and interactive experiences for students and parents. Participating in these online sessions will still provide valuable information, opportunities to ask specific questions and insights into course options, scholarships and accommodation. Years 11 and 12 students in particular, are encouraged to take up these opportunities to assist in making informed decisions for their future choices.

Scholarships

Scholarship applications are now open for most universities.

Tertiary Admission Centre applications
You can apply for access and equity scholarships via the Tertiary Admission Centres for states such as Victoria and NSW/ACT.
You do not know what specific scholarships you are applying for and you may need to provide evidence for special consideration factors such as financial disadvantage, disability, medical condition, Indigenous Australian and/or difficult circumstances.
Closing date for VTAC: 8 October, https://bit.ly/3rQniel
Closing date for UAC: 9 December, https://bit.ly/3bAjxzT

Direct applications
Assess your options for each university by Googling the name of the institute and the term ‘scholarship’. Use the filters to narrow the search field. You will need to read through each scholarship to see if you are eligible. If you find scholarships you can apply for, make a note of the application method, closing date and organise any evidence you need to provide.
Note: If a scholarship requires you to apply for it via the Tertiary Admission Centre then you do not have to apply for it directly to the institute.

Applying for university courses via UAC?

The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) processes course, special consideration and equity scholarship applications on behalf of NSW and Canberra based tertiary institutes.

Applying for an undergraduate teaching degree?
You may need to complete the Teaching Questionnaire in your UAC account. You may also need to complete a ‘motivation to teach’ statement direct to the university.

Applying for an early admission program?
All early admission programs for NSW and Canberra universities are now open. Ensure you have listed closing dates and are working on your applications as some programs close at the end of August. You may need to organise a recommendation or your Year 11 results from your school, so try and be organised as early as possible.

Accommodation

If you have to move away to study your course, you will need to consider accommodation options. If you would like to live on-campus, you will need to start considering your options now as some universities are ‘first in, first served’.

Steps to apply for on-campus accommodation:
• Make an Excel sheet or table in Word.
• List the universities you are applying to.
• Google the university and the term ‘accommodation’.
• In your table, list the types of accommodation available (for example, studio, shared apartment, catered, non-catered).
• Then list the weekly or yearly price for each option and the contract period.
• List the application method, the closing date, cost to apply and if a deposit is required.
• Speak to your family about budget considerations.
• Then tick off the accommodation you have applied for once this is completed.
