Planning ahead is a key skill we all need to adopt at times.  This newsletter contains a number of opportunities for information sessions in a range of areas and a range of institutions, both in Victoria and other states.  Gathering information for your future planning and starting early in this process is a clever move and Years 10 and 11 students are particularly encouraged to start exploring while they have a bit more time to do so!

There are also a number of local events coming up for both students and parents – see the end of this newsletter for all the details.

On 26 March, St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School Warragul Campus will be hosting iCanMed – a company that will provide a workshop on the UCAT.  The UCAT is a test that students wishing to apply for Medicine or Dentistry need to sit as part of the application process in Year 12.

Again, it is never too early to start that planning process and gathering the information you may need in coming years.  This event is open to Years 10, 11 and 12 students from our Warragul and Traralgon Campuses.

Happy reading and planning!

Applying for Medicine, Dentistry or Oral Health?

If you are in Year 12 and plan to apply for any of these health science courses to start in 2021, you may need to sit the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test).  The UCAT ANZ is a two-hour, computer based test which assesses a range of mental abilities identified by universities as important to practicing in the fields of medicine and dentistry.  It consists of five separately timed subtests which each contain a number of questions in a multiple-choice format.  You will sit the test in July 2020 and selected universities use your UCAT ANZ results as part of the selection process, in conjunction with your ATAR and VCE results and in some cases an interview.  You will only have one chance to sit the UCAT ANZ this year.
Key dates:
2 March  Bookings open
4 March  Deadline for concession scheme and access arrangements
11 May  Booking deadline
18 May  Booking cancellation and late booking deadline
1 to 31 July  Testing
September  Results delivered to universities

It will cost you around $299 to sit the test or $199 concession and you will be able to receive your results straight away.

You have the choice to start preparing for the test early.  There are several private companies who offer commercial preparation programs – www.nie.edu.au/ and www.medentry.edu.au/ are examples.

It is important to note that the universities who use the UCAT do not endorse any of these companies and you can access free preparation materials from the UCAT site, https://bit.ly/2tjIewA

Please go to https://www.ucat.edu.au/ for more information about the UCAT ANZ, to see if you have to sit the test and to register for the test.
