CAREERS NEWS
Whilst recently reading an article ‘What are Soft Skills and Why are they Important?’ by Jay Munro, the following resonated with me for our students:
“Developing your soft skills is mostly about being open-minded, perceptive and having a willingness to adapt. Specifically, it means seeking to change your behaviours in different situations by reflecting on past experiences and continuing to learn from the things that happen around you.”
As our Year 12s approach their choices for 2020 and beyond, it is important to remember that whatever ‘plan’ is in place today, may be very different tomorrow, next week, next year! Knowing that there are always ‘ways and means’ to realise a future pathway, can sometimes be daunting – but can also be exciting at the same time, if we can be open-minded and adapt our plans on how to get there.
Whatever transpires in the coming weeks, having the ability to stand back and look at how this can be achieved, listen and learn from other people’s advice and adapt to a new (and who knows – it may be an even better!) plan, may be the first step to a whole new and wonderful experience!
This is an exciting time for not just Year 12s but also other students who are embarking on a ‘change of plan’ for 2020 – we wish them all the best! Keep that ‘open-mind’ attitude and embrace everything that comes your way!
